You remove the background, download the clip, and open it. There is a black rectangle where the background used to be. That does not always mean the edit failed: the export may have lost transparency, or the player may simply be showing transparent pixels against black. Here is how to tell the difference.
Start with a short clip
Choose a few seconds that include movement, loose hair, and any objects you need to keep. Open the transparent video maker and follow the link to the background remover. Upload that sample first. A still pose can hide problems that become obvious as soon as someone turns their head.
Remove the background and inspect the cutout
Choose a transparent background and inspect the preview. Look between fingers, around shoulders, and along moving hair. A checkerboard is a preview convention; it should not become part of the downloaded picture. If parts of the subject disappear, test a clearer recording before committing to the full clip.
Choose an export with an alpha channel
An alpha channel stores how transparent each pixel is. In this tool, use the transparent WebM export when you need to layer the subject over another scene. A normal MP4 export from the tool has a background baked in. Renaming an MP4 file to .webm will not add transparency.
Need separate images for compositing? A PNG sequence can keep transparency when the source has alpha. Keep the frame rate with the files so the sequence plays at the intended speed.
Test the downloaded file over another image
Import the export into software that supports its alpha channel and place a bright image underneath it. If that image shows through around your subject, transparency survived. If you see a solid rectangle, check both the export settings and the receiving software.
For a website, test the actual page in the browsers and devices your visitors use. Codec playback support and alpha support are not the same thing. MDN’s video codec guide explains the distinction. Provide a still image or a version with a matching background when transparent playback is unavailable.
Keep a transparent master for later edits
Save the original recording and your transparent export. Make separate versions with a background for social posts or other destinations that flatten the clip. This saves you from trying to remove the background a second time from an already compressed export.
Next step
Start with a short test in the transparent video maker. Verify the downloaded file in its final destination before processing the longer recording.
